  1. MEZBETH | THE LEPER Name: Mezbeth Race: Human Profession: Exile Desired Class: Paladin Brief Character Backstory Four years after Duskwood's desolation, a hideous child was born in under the sign of the blood moon. Pockmarked and disfigured, such a newborn would be received in any house as an ill omen and drowned in a washbasin or smothered before its first breath. This would, in all respects, be the benevolent thing to do. But the farmer's wife was weak in constitution and could not bring herself to kill a living thing. In the ruins of a collapsing barn, she kissed the child's wet head and tucked away the dull knife. She was stuck between worlds. She would not name her progeny, nor kill it. She would not show it off, nor love it on her own. Nameless and afraid, the thing would spend its infancy in a forgotten cellar, tended to no more like a beast than a houseplant. Eventually, the child was discovered by a drunkard who had broken into the farmstead cellar in search of wine. The man retched when he looked upon the child's visage and abandoned his attempted thieving to warn the townspeople of an abomination in the skin of a child. It was not long before the flickering of torchlight was seen on the long dirt road. The farmer's wife pleaded with the townsfolk, but they would show little mercy. Her farmstead was burned in retribution for putting the town in danger, and the child was taken to Dreadwind Pass and left to die in the wilds. After a week living off vermin and insects, a wandering hermit found the child on the road. The hermit saw a glimmer of humanity in the child and named her Mezbeth. He wrapped her in bandages so she would not be feared, and taught her the ways of the Light, so she would not be afraid. They lived together in a cave for some time, copying manuscripts in the day and sparring at night. They traveled to the marshes to the south in search of medicinal plants to soothe Mezbeth's sores. They heard many stories and told many more. Occasionally, they were separated in the swamps, but they always found their way back. Until the day she lost him for good. In the end, Mezbeth was alone. She was always alone. And now, she had only his words and her faith to guide her. Brief Character Personality Synopsis Mezbeth is devoted to the teachings of the Light, but is in the process of developing her moral compass. Still in her youth (mid-20s) and wise to the ways of the world, she's figuring out whether humanity is worth protecting when it can be so cruel and alienating to people like her. Having experienced a great loss, she will go to the ends of Azeroth to protect her close allies. But at the same time, she is wary of the intentions of others. She can also be masochistic, flagellating herself for her mistakes. She has hope that there's a cure out there for her disfigurement, but something at the back of her mind tells her she'll always be like this. How much time can you commit to this campaign?
