mods and their moderation

Recommended Posts

Hi there Epsilon and co. I never write here, but I need to say this, on me and many other players behalves.

I don't know where to exactly put this, but I figured suggestions is where it should be, so here goes.

I won't make this a whole document, but I'll write what I need to write.

The Mod Issue:

I can safely say that me and many other's that I will not name, are tired of how things are ran here. The moderators of Epsilon are not taking care of the server in a healthy way. The team consist of mainly players that most of Epsilon does not know of, nor have interacted with in the slightest. It feels like these moderators are recruited by being friends with a staff member, rather than properly applying, which is more-so like a clique of friends rather than a proper team. I am not saying this as an insult nor as a hit on the head, but it is odd to see overall.

The big issue that I and many other roleplayers have is that these mods do not handle problems in a good way. I have seen many friends of mine send me screenshots of reports of very troublesome and non-safe players that simply get shrugged off by the moderators, or they get a light little bonk on the head to remove the stuff that is "not okay", which are mostly TRP profiles and mogs. These reported players usually have very s*xual and NSFW traits, which should not be on a server that is deemed okay for minors to play on, at all. This is disturbing, and overall disgusting to accept. While I have reported players like this, they have either been shrugged off by the moderators, all while the whispers that are being reported are clearly not supposed to be a thing on here in the first place.

Blatant ageplay and r*pe F-List's are overlooked by the moderation team. If these profiles do get reported by a player, the moderators, from what I have witnessed, simply tell the f-list users to only remove their list from their 'about' section. This is a lazy and enablist way to keep really dangerous players around. Do you moderators really think that these F-List players will stop pursuing their disturbing fantasies? Do you really think a "remove the f-list please" warning will fix anything? No, it will certainly not. Your team are valuing quantity over quality, and it is very obvious. You do not mind a couple of blatant s*xual predators to roam around in start, whispering players that you have literally no idea if they are underage or not to do downright criminally disgusting things. This is not okay to do, guys. This should not be on the server, and you need to realise this. There is a reason why many players are leaving Epsilon due to how it's currently ran. For the love of all things good, please do not enable s*xual predators and p*ed*s to play on here, as you paint this server to be minor-friendly.

The Personal Grudges:

I have also witnessed that the moderation team are very biased on who they want to engage with. As I have said previously, you are seemingly fine with these F-List'ers roaming about, but if you see a person saying a cuss word in another language, you warn them. This has happened to me, as me and some friends who are from Scandinavia said the P-word in start in our languages, knowing very well we only understood what was being said. Yet one moderator who I will not name, warned us stating that saying these forbidden words are a bannable offense. While I understand that swearing and naming genitalia in start is not okay, the way it is being handled looks very biased and sour. It seems like your team want to get rid of pesky memers instead of actual troublesome players that can cause harm. I could be wrong here, but it is how me and many others feel.

I love this server, I love WoW RP, and I love the creative things that happen here daily.

Please, Epsi staff. I understand that it is very hard to watch over everyone and track out which players are dangerous, and which players are simply being trollish. But you have shown that people DO find out about these troublesome players and that we want justice to be done to them, and rightfully so. You are showing signs that you let these people roam around in the public start zone, freely whispering players of all ages for 'private' RP, that is obviously s*xual, all while they get reported, yet with no punishment.

This server should be about creativity and community, yet the community is being trashed by hazy communication.

Bless ya'll & much love.

idk how true this is and to what extent, but it definitely sounds unreasonable. as far as i know, azarchius himself confirmed in a previous thread that they don't/shouldn't care about silly words like cunt/penis/the UNORTHODOX FOREIGN genitalia. So... if such things occur, your best bet would ask him for confirmation or let a GM know.

edit: found the post

"We do not believe the mere usage of a word, such as 'pussy', is a problem--the problem is context. Saying, 'what a pussy' isn't against the rules. Yelling 'PENIS!' in the start zone or having a conversation about BDSM? yeah no, sorry"

either way, that's what i gathered from it. as for the NSFW whispers, keep reporting them, even if it's on behalf of someone else. They matter, that's the positive impression I got. I reported someone for inappropriate whispers and was told it would be dealt with. The same person whispered me AGAIN on another char days later. I don't know if they've only been warned or penalised on the 2nd instance, but some people are also stubborn and may just risk it despite the warnings because horny. I've given it the benefit of the doubt, because I know some people keep repeating offences despite being scolded / punished.

Very very weird then, as I was told to not say stuff like that in start by one moderator. My message still stands however.

This has been a problem for some time. The stories I've heard about inequal moderation on this server are quite puzzing, and very widespread - More than any other server for any other game I've been on.

To watch people frequently talking openly about sexual topics, and using overt sexual language, in the discord and on the server... And then, to hear so many stories of people getting into trouble for things that are, comparatively and objectively, incredibly innocuous and routinely unfair. It's disheartening. The rules are understandable, but they are so blindly and subjectively and emotionally inforced, they effectively do not exist. I have heard and experienced multiple accounts of things that are blatantly allowed being the cause for punishment, muting, and bans - As well as the shocking rudeness I've seen in private messages that moderators have sent in these cases.

Everybody knows it's going on. It's an open secret among the playerbase. Most players accept that the moderation has not gotten better and will only get worse. We all know what most people use this server for; If the moderation team cannot handle the most fundamental aspects of enforcing a code of PG-rated discourse in public, place an age restriction on the server.

If you cannot consistently enforce the same rules for every player, and cannot even provide a consistent view on the rules between moderators, your moderation team is in an existential crisis; And the players are bearing the entirity of the negative outcome.

Admins: Do not simply let your mod team take pot-shots at random players. Do not just grab high-visibility or high-status players and builders for your moderation team. Being a good builder does not make one a good moderator. This is day-one stuff.

And no frail excuses about "Oh, we can't be everywhere at once", or, "We can't catch everyone". We all know this isn't true, and it excuses nothing. I've witnessed senior admins sitting alongside people talking openly about sexual topics, and never saw anything being done.

With this being said... Players also need to understand that this is a fantasy space, and not every player who enjoys adult content is a harasser. This is a fantasy space, dealing with fantasy things. Epsilons have a very nasty habit of openly attacking and harassing those who play themes that they do not personally enjoy, and hugely inflate the severity/IRL implications, which is a very childish way to try to censor private content they do not like.

Nobody should have an f-list link in their profile, or start communication with an explicit whisper, and that should be the end of it.
